Iraqi Prime Minister attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Iraqi Missan Combined Cycle Power Plant Project undertaken by Energy China

 

At 8:00 a.m. local time on July 3, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi attended the power generation ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Iraqi Missan Combined Cycle Power Plant Project undertaken by Energy China and participated in related activities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was presided over by the Iraqi cabinet minister. China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. is responsible for the survey and design of the project, Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd is responsible for the general contracting of construction work while CITIC Construction Co., Ltd. is responsible for EPC management.

Mr Kadhimi said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the completion and commissioning of the Missan combined cycle power plant project constitutes an important supplement to the power supply of all provinces in the country. Among them, the Missan province, where the project is located, will be the first beneficiary. It has greatly eased the pressure on local power supply and played a vital role in the national strategic deployment.

He pointed out that the project can promote the construction of the "Belt and Road" between China and Iraq, the coordinated development of industries, the integration of industry, finance and among other dimensions, further promoting win-win cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, Kadhimi spoke highly of the construction of the project, and highly affirmed that the Chinese enterprises have overcome the adverse effects of the epidemic, severe weather and safety situation, and have not been afraid of difficulties and headwinds.

The Missan Combined Cycle Power Plant project is located 20 kilometers southeast of Al-Amara City, Missan Province, Iraq. Construction started on May 15, 2019, and power generation was suspended after October 2021 due to the impact of fuel supply. On June 26, 2022, it started to use natural gas for power generation.

The Missan Combined Cycle Power Plant Project is a very important key project in Iraq and the Missan Province. The designed capacity is 800 MW. The project consists of 2 Siemens SGT5-4000F improved gas-fired units and 1 SST5-4000 unit to form Combined cycle unit. Its single unit and the total installed capacities are at the forefront of the local area, which has a great impact on local social and economic development and improvement of people's livelihood.

The Governor of Missan Province, Ali Dowa, Minister of Electricity Adele Karim, the head of the military, the chairman of the owner's group company, and the on-site leaders of all Chinese participating parties participated in the event.
